For my birthday, we took a four hour busride to San Miguel de Allende and Guanajuato from Mexico City. A UNESCO World Heritage site, San Miguel de Allende has perserved its Spanish Colonial architecture. Some even call the city magical. Filled with artists, galleries line the cobblestone streets and festivities go on almost every weekend. It certainly is one of the most beautiful Latin American cities I have visited.
La Luna Rooftop Bar at the Rosewood Hotel has some of the best views of the city. The hotel is also a spectacular place to stay.
EAT: for my birthday, we ate at Moxi Restaurant, whose chef also owns the award winning restaurant, Pujol in Mexico City. The restaurant is located in the boutique hotel, Hotel Matilda, a great place for post drinks.
GUANAJUATO
Larger than San Miguel de Allende, Guanajuato is beautifully covered with colorful buildings. Activities include visiting a mummy museum, the childhood home of Diego Rivera, and spectacular views.
