My friend was getting married in Ayamonte, which borders Portugal in the south of Spain. With airplane prices skyrocketing, flying into Madrid and taking a train down to Sevilla and then driving to Ayamonte, was the cheapest option. With only a day and a night, 24 hours in Madrid was a whirlwind but left me wanting to return again.
It was my first time in the capital city of Spain. There was so much I wanted to do but not enough time. Instead of museums, palaces, and sites, I opted to take a walking tour that involved lots of eating and drinking.

Our first stop was Mercado de San Miguel for some sangria and tapas.
After that, we took the short walk through scenic streets to Plaza Mayor for a tapas dish of shrimp and garlic and a bottle of Spanish white wine. We then walked along the main boulevards taking in the beautiful Spanish streets. We were smart to take a nap before heading to dinner at 10:30pm. After that we had more drinks and hit the clubs until 4:00am. Just enough time for 3 hours of sleep before taking the train to Sevilla.
